| Abstract | This paper presents the development of a simulation platform in software and in hardware for stall regulated variable speed wind energy systems. The system is controlled by a gain scheduled controller for maximum power extraction for below rated wind speeds and for power limitation for above rated wind speeds. For the operation of the controller an adaptive Kalman filter is used for wind speed estimation. The whole system is modeled in software and also implemented in hardware using a DC motor and a DC drive, an Induction generator and a bi-directional converter. The communication between the software and the hardware parts is established via a dSpace card. Experimental results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the system. |
