Social Programme:

  • Civic Welcome in the Barony Hall
    • The Civic Welcome will be held at the Barony Hall in Glasgow city centre.
    • Tuesday September 1, 2009 at 7pm
  • Excursion to the Falkirk Wheel & Stirling Castle
    • Travel by coach to the Falkirk Wheel, for a special presentation. Travel onwards to Stirling for a tour of Stirling Castle.
    • Coaches will go directly to Oran Mor for the Taste of Scotland evening, returning to the conference venue around 11pm.

  • Taste of Scotland Evening, Oran Mor
    • The evening will include perfromances by Scottish music groups and a Scottish dancing demonstration, accompanied by a hot buffet.
    • Wednesday September 2, 2009 at 8pm
  • Glasgow Science Centre
    • The conference banquet will be held in the Glasgow Science Centre. Drinks will be served in the gallery areas. Dinner will follow in the main auditorium.
    • Transportation by coach to and from the Science Centre will be provided.
    • Thursday September 3, 2009 at 7pm

Companion Programme:

The total cost per companion is £110. This permits attendance at the social events available to full delegates. Lunch tickets can also be purchased at a cost of £12 per day should your companion wish to join you for lunch during the conference. If you wish to register a companion please complete the appropriate section on the registration form.

Additional events are available to companions as below. Places will not be guaranteed until full payment has been received. The departure and return point will be from the Lord Todd building. English speaking guides will join all visits.

  • Lunch and Walking Tour (£25)
    • Join a walking tour of Glasgow City Centre and learn of the cities origins and development.
    • The walking tour will last for approximately 2 hours and be followed by lunch in the Charles Rennie MacIntosh inspired Willow Tearooms located in Buchanan Street.
    • The walk will leave from the Cathedral (adjacent to the Campus) and proceed through the original city area.
    • Suitable for all levels of fitness.

  • Burrell Collection and Pollok Park (£35)
    • Travel by coach to the Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park.
    • The Burrell Collection is situated in the tranquil surroundings of Pollok Country Park in the South of the city and houses one of the greatest collections of art created by one person.
    • William Burrell had been an art collector since his teens and the collection of over 9,000 works of art, gifted to Glasgow, is made up of a vast array of works of all periods and from all over the world. You can wander round important collections of medieval art, tapestries, alabasters, stained glass and English oak furniture, European paintings, including works by Degas and Cézanne, an important collection of Islamic art, and modern sculpture including works by Epstein and Rodin, and a fine collection of works from ancient China, Egypt, Greece and Rome.
    • Following lunch in the café you will have time to explore Pollok Country Park, Glasgow’s largest park and the only Country Park within Glasgow with extensive woodlands and gardens providing a quiet sanctuary for both visitors and wildlife.
