Abstract

In this paper, by taking advantage of the network switching, a new approach for transmission network planning is introduced. The objective is to find the optimum transmission investment as well as optimum operation cost for a given network assuming that network switching is a plausible network control option. The solution should be able to meet every single credible line outage while respecting the physical laws that govern electric power systems as well as limits on power system components. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through case studies simulated on the IEEE 24 bus network.
