Abstract

With increased penetration of wind power into electrical grids, double-fed induction generator (DFIG) operating with wind turbines are largely deployed due to their variable speed feature and hence influencing system dynamics. In this paper, the dynamic behaviour of a wind turbine with DFIG connected to the power system during grid disturbance, a model has been developed. This model includes aerodynamics, the mechanical drive train, the induction generator as well as the control parts. The response of the system during grid disturbances is studied. The induction generator model is based on the stationary reference frame and the control-unit model is based on the line-voltage oriented reference frame. The generator-side controller provides good decoupling between active and reactive power. A powerful MATLAB/SIMULINK was used for the simulation of the wind energy conversion system of a 2 MW wind turbine.
