Abstract

As more and more attention is paid to the increase of wind-farms, a number of problems should be investigated in more detail. One such problem is related to the fault clearance time of the Wind Power Based Embedded Generators (WPBEGs). The fault clearance time determines the stability of an integrated wind farm. It has been found that it is much lower than the time setting of the protection devices normally installed on networks feeders. This paper presents an attempt to determine the effective parameters on fault clearance time. The transient behavior of wind farms implemented with squirrel-cage induction generators have been studied and the impact of some important parameters such as wind speed and X/R ratio of the transmission line on the fault clearance time are investigated.
