Abstract

The potential exists for a future electrical network to include significant numbers of generators at the low voltage and EPSRC SuperGen Highly Distributed Power Systems (HDPS) Consortium has begun to investigate this in some detail. A possible future sees the majority of these generators using renewable energy as their sources. This research aims to identify and develop the concept, method and solutions that will support the dispatching system for Low voltage (LV) network configuration. Existing methods for dispatching at the HV level need to be revised in light of new uncertainties in generation availability and changing patterns in energy use at the LV level. In this research a concept that has been previously applied in manufacturing industry to multi-state processes will be adopted as a means of dispatching generation within a HDPS configuration.
