| Abstract | The aim of the paper is to report on the design and performance of new ultra-high-frequency sensors for on-line partial discharge measurement on power transformers. The sensors are highly robust in terms of their mechanical design and possess high electrical sensitivity. The frequency response of various transformer probe sensors are be compared to that of a commercially available sensor, as are the mechanical design characteristics. Sensor response has been fully characterised in terms of sensitivity with respect to mounting depth. This has been achieved using a pulsed GTEM calibration cell with a specially designed transformer valve mounting plate. Practical safety considerations relating to on-site installation are also addressed. |
