Abstract

This paper introduces the control system design for multi-terminal voltage source converter based high voltage DC transmission systems (MT-VSC-HVDC) for grid-connection of large offshore wind power generation. Coordination among VSCs based on a droop scheme is used to control DC voltage and achieve proper power sharing. A four-terminal system is built to test the control idea. Simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC has been carried out under various load and fault conditions. Satisfactory operation performance of the MT-VSC-HVDC system has been achieved at steady states, during dynamic processes and under fault conditions.
