| Abstract | The gen-set model presented in this paper is of a modern common rail direct injection turbocharged diesel engine coupled to a brushless synchronous machine. An electronic fuel governor and automatic voltage regulator are included in the model. The new model presented in this paper aims to be representative across the entire operating range of the gen-set. With this new model, a higher confidence in the performance across the gen-sets operating range can be gained. If a simulation is performed using a simplified model the gen-set appears to perform better than it does in reality. This could lead to the undesirable condition of under sizing a gen-set for use in a backup application. |
