Abstract

A new methodology for predicting the magnitude and duration of voltage sag caused by an increase in power demand due to induction motor starting, for interconnected systems, is proposed in this paper. The methodology consists of three complex mathematical steps, which are explained in detail. The steps are implemented with the use of mathematical software. The proposed steps are applied on a four bus interconnected system featuring double cage motor starting on one of the load buses. The findings are also validated through power system simulation, proving that the methodology proposed is applicable and the results obtained are representative of the disturbance they characterise. The Methodology enhances the power quality of a system, through accurately predicting the voltage sag in terms of both magnitude and duration
